Block spam and abuse on your web chat

How-toFor everyoneReviewed Guides: Customer inbox

Someone is sending spam or abuse through the chat on your website. Anyone who can reply to their conversation can block them, and admins manage the list.

  1. Find the visitor’s conversation in its channel, or open its thread.
  2. Click Visitor details on the conversation’s card or on the bar over the message box, then Block visitor.
  3. Leave Also block their IP address on, so they can’t come back from a new browser. Pick how long: a day, a week, 30 days (the default) or until someone unblocks it.
  4. Click Block.

The conversation closes, and the visitor sees This chat isn’t available right now. on all your web chats. The IP block ends on its own because offices and phone networks share addresses.

You need to be an owner or admin.

  1. In the Admin Center, go to Integrations → Customer inbox.
  2. Under Blocked visitors, click Unblock next to them.

They can chat again right away.

Under Blocked visitors in the Admin Center:

  • Type an IP address or range, like 203.0.113.0/24, and click Block.
  • Under Countries, pick where your web chats shouldn’t open. Unknown location (VPNs and Tor) covers visitors whose country is hidden.

Blocking a whole range or country can turn real customers away too, so start with the visitor.
